I’ve gotten it. I’m a white female that frequently travels alone to less than typical destinations for work and fun. Turns out TSA is really uncomfortable with the idea that women might go anywhere alone of their own volition.

My SO’s brown father gets ‘randomly selected’. Once my (6'4”, large, white-looking) SO and his (similarly white/white-passing) mom and sister walked up and said, “hey dad, what’s taking so long?”
TSA immediately backed off. SO says it was so blatant it bordered on absurd.

Yup, yup & yup. My husband and I used to travel a lot. I am a light skinned black woman & was ALWAYS pulled out for additional screening. He is white & never was. Eventually he started asking the agents why this was. They always had contradictory answers or none at all.
