I love that they all cheer each other in and hug the person who goes home. It’s delightfully refreshing in a reality tv world of “I’m not here to make friends”

i’m sure the channel 4 series will be ok, but it most likely won’t be as endearing as the bbc version, and i don’t think it’ll “capture the audience”, as they say (is that what the saying is??), like the bbc one. it wasn’t just the chemistry of 4 that made it work, it was the whole package: no product placements, no

Ad breaks, and the associated reduction in actual programme, is part of the reason for the upset. But it’s also about the difference in tone between the channels, the likelihood of sponsorship affecting the content of the programme, and the loss of the presenters - and what is seen as greed on the part of the

That was terrible. The contestants just didn’t get it, they were so hell bent on winning and that host was incredibly bad.

I loved Nadiya. I was so happy she won, Not that I would have minded Tamal winning as I loved him too, but Nadiya’s speech at the end of the finale gave me so many feels. And I loved how visibly moved Mary Berry was by her win. I don’t think we’ve seen her like that in past seasons.

It really is. The way they all help each other out, the actual constructive criticism from the hosts. It's why the show is so addictive and a joy to watch.

“They could have tasted the melted ice cream, Ian!” -me, when also binge watching it alone.

PBS aired UK season 4 as US season 1, UK season 5 as US season 2 and UK season 6 as US season 3. Don’t ask me why, or why it took them so long to get on it.

I’m pretty sure I watched the second series of GBBO on YouTube, but it appears the videos I watched have since been deleted. I must have caught them shortly before they were removed, because I only got caught up with the series within the last month or so. Maybe some more uploaders will pop back up soon. I’d keep

I join him in that fear. GBBO is so refreshing in its lack of producer manufactured drama.

I’m so upset! That show is just absolutely perfect the way it is and you can’t add or subtract anything to that without fundamentally changing what makes it magic. They are my absolute favorite hosts of any show, they’re so goofy and witty and engaging and friendly. I’m glad they stuck to their guns insofar as I

There was a full-season version in the US 3 or 4 years ago. The part of Mel-and-Sue was played by Jeff Foxworthy. Paul was on as a judge. I won’t be surprised if Mary leaves, but he didn’t seem bothered by the less gentle (but civil) US version so I dunno. And Paul, who was and remains married, had a not-very-discreet

I wouldn’t set my expectations for what a Mel & Sue-less Bake Off will be like based on what foreign knock offs are like. Foreign remakes of shows are frequently shit. Mel and Sue are an important part of what has made the show successful, but it’s not like they put the show together themselves. If the current

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Oh man. This is going to be tough. Sue and Mel are the Ant and Dec of the baking world. They’ve got a kind of chemistry and ease that is going to be impossible to replace. Meh.

I’ll still give it a watch, but it won’t be the same. I’ve watched the Bake Off shows from a few different countries, and they just aren’t the same. They’re still alright, but with different judges and hosts they just aren’t as good as the original.

That was MrStu’s reaction when I texted him the news this morning. He was all table-flipping GIF, saying he’s afraid they’ll try to turn it into something as overwrought as Top Chef.

MrStu and I have been binging it before bed and I legit cried when I saw the news this morning (full disclosure: I’m pregnant, so there’s that). Mel and Sue are such a huge part of what makes the show wonderful.

The problem for me is not “ownership”. That’s when the ideas of cultural appropriation go to far, I agree.

I agree. I’m not Irish, but I think the American celebration of St. Patrick’s day is really ridiculous, and borderline offensive.
