There’s a difference between an alternate treatment and “alternative medicine”. An alternate treatment is another proven therapy that has similar outcomes. Alternative medicine is an unproven therapy that lacks scientific evidence of achieving similar outcomes.

Thank you for chiming in! You said what I wanted to say much better than I did.

I completely agree with everything you said.

This and “you get to do whatever you want because you don’t have kids” are those worst things a parent can say to a non-parent friend. Just because I don’t have children doesn’t mean I don’t have responsibilities — whether familial or professional. Even though I don’t have kids, I can’t just drop everything and do

I forgot about that one. I guess there’ve been quite a few clunker tips over the years.

This has got to be the worst tip I’ve seen on Lifehacker. Why would I want to junk up my Contacts with recipes? There are plenty of good recipe apps (PepperPlate, Paprika, etc.) that can sync across multiple platforms. As others suggested, you could use non-recipe note apps (OneNote, Evernote, Dropbox). All of those

I saw Macfadyen on stage in Jeeves and Wooster, and he was better than I could have imagined. However, my favorite show of his is Spooks (known as MI-5 in the US).

Same. I watch just about anything British on PBS, but I just couldn’t get into Poldark. I didn’t think anything could get worse than the year Masterpiece was taken over by Dickens adaptations, but let’s just say I made it through Little Dorrit but not Poldark.

I completely forgot Chris Pratt was on The O.C. To me, he will forever be Bright Abbott from Everwood.

A few years ago, I was interviewing internal candidates that I didn’t know (I would be managing the location remotely). One of the interview questions was something about how they have handled have handled work-related conflicts. It was pretty open ended and didn’t specifically call out conflicts with other people.

I think I hate “Romanoff” more than I hate “czar”. I know the root of the word is “caesar”, but the first letter is ц, which makes a “ts” sound, not a “cz” sound.

Fingers crossed he’s good at writing a tell-all book or honestly testifying in front of Congress.

Don’t worry. I always forget that EB White is a man. I think I’ve just come to think that every writer who uses initials is a woman being forced to use a name that could be easily mistaken as a man’s name (e.g., JK Rowling and SE Hinton).

These are great in theory, but it’s only actually been used in one apartment complex I’ve lived in over the past 20 years. My current complex as two or three of these package boxes, but I’ve yet to get a package in one of them since moving in 10 years ago

For me, the best part of Jon Stewart’s stint on The Daily Show was his interviews. He was great with just about any guest — politicians, authors, thinkers, actors, etc. Long before he took over TDS, he would fill in for Tom Snyder, and I was sad when he didn’t continue on with that gig after Snyder retired. I’d still

Is this really that surprising? There used to be traditions of keeping locks of hair as keepsakes and making mourning jewelry from hair. Most ancient mummies still have hair entact. It doesn’t seem to disintegrate or decompose very quickly.

My high school chemistry teacher started med school in her early 40s, and has now been practicing for over a decade. It’s definitely never too late.

Other than being overweight and female, I don’t have any other risk factors. I had a mammo when I was 40 (before the new ACS recommendations came out). It was completely normal and my breasts are mostly fatty tissue (not dense, which increases risk). Now that the ACS recommendations are out, I told my doctor that I

I didn’t say that women should forgo mammography because of this. I was just trying to explain why the article says that women might be getting treatment for a false positive. I don’t think many women are getting treatment based on a false positive. It’s more likely that they are getting unnecessary treatment for
