Yeah there’s a lot of talk about her getting fired or not but I’m not hearing about when they’re planning on charging her. They’ve already fessed up to negligent homicide. This is a slam-dunk case.

If I meant to stop at a light, but ran said light and killed someone, I would not get fired...

The sidearm used was a Glock, which does not have an external safety (basically, pulling the trigger is the safety; there’s a little latch inside the trigger that disengages when pulling the trigger). Most tasers that I know of, however, DO have safeties.

Right? I’m worried/sort of hoping that they inadvertently pulled a Back to the Future II, where a throwaway joke at the end of the movie now has to be addressed in the unexpected sequel.

This is racism and complete failure to train.

This already seems too busy, even for a sequel. But whatever. Shazam is one of the few DCEU movies I’ll give a little benefit of the doubt too, as the first was so fun.

Hot Take: I enjoyed Shazam! and look forward to the sequel.

Well said.  I think these narratives conveniently like to ignore just how many people are involved with a TV show (and Joss Whedon, particularly at this stage of his career, doesn’t run his writer’s room like Aaron Sorkin or Matt Weiner).  But, yeah, it’s absolutely fair to point out how it does bring certain things

I think it’s a little bit of “all those reasons”.

My one quibble is that sometimes these sorts of revelations make elements you’d otherwise be able to overlook more glaring - eg, Xander’s “but I’m a nice guy”, borderline incel behavior.

Yeah, I don’t even know that I’d disagree with that. I wouldn’t even argue with people who find Buffy has been totally ruined for

It’s a goof!

Wait a minute...so the officer accidentally grabbed wrong weapon, accidentally UNHOLSTERED the wrong weapon, accidentally removed safety, accidentally AIMED A WEAPON and didn’t feel in the hand it was a gun...gun which is A LOT heavier than a taser, especially if fully loaded.

Yeah, I saw the list of Whedon tropes and . . . they didn’t seem all that specific to Whedon. I mean, yeah, “young female protagonists tortured by supernatural ability and responsibility” sounds like Buffy, but only Buffy. And the rest of the examples just sounded like genre staples. I mean, listing “hand-to-hand

i used to think separating the art from the artist was a more adult, mature way of looking at things...but now i actually feel the opposite.

Having watched it after reading this review (though skimming the lengthy plot recap), I liked it a lot more than I expected to, especially after the first 20 minutes or so. Maybe I’m just a bit out of touch with Whedon—I was a devoted follower of Buffy from when the second episode aired, and followed Angel, Firefly

I love Whedon’s work. It is a big reason I work in the TV industry. But the shit people describe from the Buffy was not acceptable. I’ve worked with arsehole directors and producers, but nothing where every female cast member is traumatised 20 years later. Where the director isn’t allowed around one of the shows stars

Yeah, Joss Whedon was my favorite filmmaker as a teenager and I still love a lot of his shows, but I’m never watching anything he does in the future after all the revelations about him, because the merit of his artistic output isn’t the issue here. I will say, though, that I can understand some negative critical

The question finds it inexplicable that there was a Great Migration in the first place based purely on demand for such locations rather than even restrictions which would have prevented people from moving there.

I dunno, man. Is this fun for anyone? I think part of Peele’s magic (which is what shows like this and Lovecraft Country aim for, whether they admit it or not) is that they function as cracking good genre fare without the more socially conscious elements, but those elements are what take it to the next level. This, on

And also - and the question sort of gives the vibe of “well they should have known better” instead of “why can’t white people just be accepting for once?”
