I've rarely got any disks in the drive, and i hear it when there's nothing in there too, so it looks like it's time to research fan replacement in laptops, wish I had checked on it before just swapping hdds...

I vaguely remember seeing a post about knocking noises in pc's being the hdd typically going out (it even had a link to a site with recorded failing hdds), so I replaced the drive in my lappie top recently....but the noise still happens from time to time, what else would sound like that knock/kick noise a hdd makes…
