Great topic for discussion! A little perspective from the other side; I manage valet ops for a site that has about 10k cars in/out per month. We have camera coverage in all our lanes and our valets are trained to flag (point and raise a hand) at every bit of damage on an incoming car. We also mark it on an outline of…
There was a GNX sitting around the Columbus, OH area for a while with ~400 miles on the odometer. I think I first saw it in 2010 and it probably didn’t sell til 2016-17. Seller wanted $185k for it.
My mom got rid of her manual 1996 Saab 9000 CSE Turbo for a Lexus RX300. That was gonna be my first car. A hatchback designed by Giugiaro!!!
That is the most “Mainah” story I’ve ever heard and it’s probably at least 84% true.
Counterpoint: It took 6 years after the E30 debuted for an M3 to arrive. It took 3 years after the E39 arrived for an M3. Sometimes waiting is a good thing.
The AAA tow driver didn’t have a battery or lighter-plug-powered tire inflator? I wouldn’t expect everyone to carry one of them around with them but when you’re a AAA driver I’d imagine 90% of your calls are dead battery or flat tire related.
It was 2007, I was 20 years old and working at a family friend’s dealership as a dealer trade driver for a few extra bucks now and then. I also had a 1959 Chevy Apache fleetside longbed, painted white and turquoise two-tone. I could go on about that truck for days, but suffice it to say she was my pride and joy. Due…
You’re moving the goal posts now. The question at hand was never “is Elon Musk going to take Tesla private?” The question is “did Elon Musk mislead people about where in the process of taking Tesla private he is?” You’re trying to marginalize a materially relevant (not just in my eyes, but obviously investors and…
Who replaces tires anyways? Just buy a new car when the factory rubber wears out.
IMO one of the biggest mistakes people make is being brand loyal. The best tires I’ve bought are a set of Goodyears. I hate Goodyear for the Eagle Asymmetric 2s that were on my Focus ST from factory (and wore out after 16k miles. Don’t…
One thing I haven’t seen discussed is how this purchase may impact Musk’s compensation. I recall from this article:
You’re completely ignoring the second part of the tweet “Funding secured.” to make a point. “I’m thinking about buying a house” means something different than “I’m thinking about buying a house, my mortgage broker says we’re ready to make an offer.”
That seems like basic English to me. The latter example, and similarly…
Assuming for the purposes of this discussion that motorcycles will still exist and thus most Eastern metropolises would NOT turn into a more congested form of the complete and utter anarchy they currently enjoy, I gotta say Unimog. Don’t tell me you wouldn’t love to watch Unimog racing, Unimog-based station wagon…
I have an old Denon receiver that has 4x HDMI and 3x component in, with 1 HDMI out to the TV. Not only does it look good but I have some Audioengine passive speakers that provide incredible sound quality. Obviously it’s a more expensive and complicated setup than some are looking for, but it lets me keep my modern…
When I sold cars for a living, a used Veracruz was the 2nd car I ever sold. The buyer admitted he had no idea why he was doing it. He wanted a Santa Fe but found our Veracruz priced way below market (just to get rid of it) and couldn’t justifying paying more for less car. He was even reluctant the entire time he was…
I don’t know about every state, but in Ohio ever car deal paperwork I sold in 6 years had a disclosure form that stated that the buyer was presented with extended warranty and GAP insurance options and has declined or accepted all/any of them.
If this isn’t the case everywhere it should be. This is a non-story because…
Don’t compare the value to MSRP, compare it to a post-repair valuation. What would YOU pay for a nearly brand new Corvette that, for example, cost $60k new, you can buy with 2,000 miles for $55k, or you can buy one that just had $40k worth of work done for $45k. I would go for the $55k one if I was trying to get a…
Focus STs have shit cooling and major brake overheating issues.
I would suggest reading the book River of Gods by Ian MacDonald. It’s nearly 15 years old but it does a great job of addressing some of the societal issues you mentioned, and I secretly hope they make an RPG of it someday, though that’s a longer shot than Elvis coming back from Io and teaching us to speak Plutonian.
