I’ve lived with pretty severe bipolar disorder I since I was 14 (diagnosed only at age 28, but the symptoms set in far, far earlier than that). I know the pain of being so depressed you can’t get out of bed for days at a time, so much that even the thought of showering is too exhausting to accomplish. I know how it

ok, so interest on 40 acres and a mule over 152 years...

Pearl clutching level: MAXIMUM

That quote is really all that needs to be said on Confederate, it pretty much sums up the issue that a lot of people have with it. I’ll be tuning in for Black America, though.

I’m pretty sure that the mere mention of reparations will send 20k white people into cardiac arrest.

“Slavery is far too real and far too painful, and we still see the manifestations of it today as a country for me to ever view that as a form of entertainment.”

Just goes to show that it’s all bs. Politics is nothing but interactive theater.

You’re not clever.

I think they were expecting a good movie. No one would care about the violence, racism, or sexism if they were in service of a good movie. When they’re not, they stand out as being juvenile and shitty, just like the rest of the movie.

Not what they are saying at all. The critics say it is bad, not Jezebel.

Yup, exactly. Just cause you like the characters in some of their other incarnations doesn’t mean that they’re good in this. Otherwise I’d just get 5 community actors together, write a cocktail napkin script and be able to make an interesting film with those characters this weekend.

But you can have a violent, over-the-top action movie with a cast of sadistic characters where the narrative isn’t sexist (female characters are written as fully-rounded characters, the evilness isn’t predicated on sexist tropes), and where the plot is engaging and the jokes are funny? Nothing about “violent criminals
