Totally agree with this. I also do think they’re smart to balance the “familiar” and the “innovation” approach to the franchise by following TLJ with Solo so quickly, assuming that Solo doesn’t backfire by somehow turning people off, “soiling” on Han Solo’s legacy in any perceived way, etc.

I don’t know...wasn’t that the theme of the whole Prequels Saga, in terms of Jedi hubris and the entire Galactic Senate? Yoda, Mace, Obi-Wan and company made all sorts of bad decisions... To reject / limit Anakin’s progression in the Jedi Order, to turn the Order into a military force, to follow Palpatine’s rule, etc

Yup. And even waaaaaaay before TLJ, the Prequels made it (I thought) abundantly clear that Force sensitives aren’t bred from other Force sensitives. There’s ZERO support for the notion that having Force-wielding parents is the only way people can be strong in the Force. The Prequels established that the Jedi don’t

Was it really any less misdirection than when they said, “Darth Vader betrayed and murdered your father,” but later revealed it to be more like, “Your father’s best friend and former teacher cut his arms and legs off and left him to die slowly in lava”?

Meh. I think you’re misreading it and overexaggerating both the “teased items” and the “[making] them irrelevant” actually.

I’ve read almost all of the comics (currently reading through Mace Windu, which is the only canon thing I haven’t caught up to) and almost all of the novels (finishing Legends of Luke, haven’t read Guardians of the Whills or Rebel Rising), and 100% agree. They offer so much awesome insight into the Star Wars world.

Gutted? (I know...I’m asking for it.)

I fucking love TLJ. I’ve seen it five times in the theater so far. (Stupidly, I don’t have MoviePass.) With all the hate, now I know what’s its like to be a Prequels fan.

“You get to see him and how he is around the people who he loves, how he is when he’s comfortable.”

Because he rarely leaves his Hobbit hole and the overwhelming nature of adventure and action gets in the way of his ability to logically make sense of it all.

While I can’t wait for all the superhero action, the non-action moments look incredible. The simple non-super interactions and dynamics looks intriguingly endearing. Not unlike the best moments of WW and Steve or in Justice League between Barry and Bruce or Arthur and Bruce.

Thanks for the great content. io9’s been a part of my near-daily routine for most of these last 10 years.

We’ll have to see who else survives Rebels, but I’d love to see some of the Ghost crew show up in Episode X as some of the “allies” Leia was expecting from the Outer Rim. I mean, maybe this whole time Hera’s been rebuilding a post-Empire Ryloth, Sabine’s been working with the last remnants of the “True Mandalorians”,

If you haven’t, check out Rebels Season 2, Episode 14 “Legends of Lasat”, Rebels Season 3, Ep. 1 “Steps Into Shadow” and Season 3 finale (eps 21, 22) “Zero Hour”, and the novel The Legends of Luke Skywalker’s short story “Fishing in the Deluge”. It’s basically what you’re describing, but it’s Kanan and Luke

My sense is that The Force is literally everywhere and influencing events constantly in search of balance, or whatever. So when I saw that Paige scene, I assume that The Force had its hand in that series of coincidences that woke her up, put the button precariously on the ledge, allowed her kick of the ladder to be

I’m there with you, and I think the canon’s gone way out of its way to support that idea. Clone Wars, Dark Disciple, Rebels and Legends of Luke Skywalker all seem to lean in this direction. The Nightsisters’ brand of Dark Side-ry was cool but not explored enough. It was clearly just The Force wielded in ways that the

Help me understand this thought. How is it “fucked up” to have some misdirection in a film? I don’t get this notion that audience members were somehow directly harmed or there was some sort of affront to “the fans” with the Rey stuff. And I’m not looking to argue or be convinced, mind you. Just legitimately curious

Call me when that housing market crashes. I live in the CA Bay Area, and we’re overdue, but fuck all of any relief is in sight.

They should give the Spawn role to Iron Fist’s Finn Jones. It’d still be a stretch, but I think he’s more likely to nail Spawn rather than Iron Fist.

Oh man. That TNG photo looks silly in retrospect. Their uniforms are so sleek and simple that the gear just gets in the way. Lazer Tag!!!
