Path Finder is really what should come bundled with OSX. Finder is ridiculously lacking by comparison.

Agreed. Aside from a few nice algorithms, the products haven't truly improved since CS3. They've just gone entirely non-native with inconsistent UI, redundant crap etc. For an industry standard, Adobe's whole Creative Suite is not very professionally made.

I can't believe Splash Pro is not mentioned. It looks great and works great and also has its own codecs. Especially the timeline with thumbnails is a great feature. Granted, it's not free (though the Lite version is) but totally worth the price and it gets updated pretty regularly.

You do also need programs to support resolution independent UIs. Good examples of programs that don't are Google Chrome and I'm pretty sure Adobe's Crap Suite of 100% non-native UI doesn't. Sure you can force what MS calls "XP style scaling" but that ends up with blurry icons and user interfaces totally breaking.

Yes, this is why IMO computer basics should be a requisite. Unfortunately there are a shitload of office workers who don't even know the shortcuts for copy and paste and use right click instead.

MplayerX and Movist are neck and neck for me. I've never liked VLC on any platform. I've always felt that its codecs and post processing had a slightly worse image quality than others.

It's better to disable unused devices in BIOS.

The software is the weakest link in Spotify. The desktop app's radio feature is useless, the mobile version can't decide which tab is activated at time etc. Overall as far as UI design goes both are not good. Taking any cues from iTunes for UI design is not a good move.

The 2009 MBP doesn't carry audio through the Mini-Displayport. I believe that every model after that does. Bit of a bummer.

Many of the Lion features only make sense if you're on a laptop or other small display device. I have a whopping 30" 2560x1600 display on my desk and Launchpad is just rubbish on that. It requires me to move the cursor from one end of the scren to the other and still manages to cram new apps on another page despite

Actually you can easily change the hard drive and RAM on most Macbooks. The optical drive and battery are a bit more involved but can also be changed, though you'll probably have to source the parts from third party vendors.

I'm not that familiar with BluRay copy protection, but why does it need to send something over the 'net for that to happen? Shouldn't the player itself have the things necessarily for decoding the copy protection?

What? No "This ain't my car, it's my cousin's" point?

I use Panic's Coda at work. Textmate is a superior code editor but it's lack of server interfacing features is why I use Coda.

I guess it might be because I work in a creative industry, but all the employers I've had have allowed pretty much unrestricted internet access. Of course it's expected that employees don't surf porn or download illegal stuff using office internet connections but access to social networking has not been a problem.

It amazes me that there are companies that have such asshole policies that make employees use stuff like this. If the work gets done, why care if the employee took a break to use Facebook?

It's not a really a problem for me since only my machine at work is on 10.5 so they'll pay for it. My own MBP is 10.6. I think I'll wait and see if the upcoming Airs have anything going for them and then maybe sell my Macbook Pro for one so I get Lion from the start instead of spending extra getting it.

Good news. Hopefully it is released to all soon. I'm still on 10.5.8 at work and it's getting bothersome with the way some programs require 10.6 and others are simply not getting the latest features on 10.5.

Not a fan. The curved surfaces at the end don't add anything, it is more angular than iPhone4 and the round mute button would be harder to switch than the current one.
