The key is that most of those 700-1000hp cars have automatic transmissions. The stock flywheel on the LS7 is ~27lbs as is. Add the clutch and the rotational assembly is around 60lbs. 

It’s not even about just squeezing out power out of an NA engine, but it’s also maintaining driveability.

My HCI C6 Z06 with its 7.0L v8 has awful street manners with the large cam. It puts down 640rwhp so a bit over 700 crank hp. That’s a lot of power for NA for sure, but it’s not something anyone can hop into and…
