Agree with most of it, but being a digital designer I don't believe there is a limit to how much people care about graphical detail. Given the Chance to play the same game on ps3 or ps4, any gamer on the planet would choose the latter, even if the only difference between them was the graphics.

Don't forget that tools to create content have advanced as well. It is usually easier to do higher quality stuff and leave it at that, instead of having to spend extra time making a low poly version, downressing textures etc.
