He be huffin' dat Fury Road spraypaint again, bruh.

As much as I adore video games — and I do — it's still primarily a medium based on interactivity rather than storytelling.

Errr…sortof?

He's kinda like the genre secret weapon version of Charlie Kaufman (but more the BJM/Eternal Sunshine version than the Synecdoche/Anomalisa one).

That's definitely one of the 25% that I never seen mentioned anymore (unless it's a reference to how awful it is).

That's Geek Triple Crown-winning Rhys Darby to you, bub.

Not that I'm ever actively looking for realism in my X-Files, but if there was a branch of a bureaucracy that averaged about one arrest *per season*, you bet your sweet ass they would be shut down (and for good) faster than you could say "red tape."

Yeah. And call me cynical, but that's the kind of shit that eventually gets floated late in a series' run when the accumulated commitment to so many dispersed "ongoing" narratives becomes waaay too much to consolidate for anyone actually left on the staff.

Again, fair enough — and I really both appreciate and respect your passion and enthusiasm in mounting a spirited defense. People with different views who express themselves well are what makes these boards such a consistently interesting place to visit.

Three things:

Not so much here (I find the vast majority of comments on AVC both reasonable and engaging), but on the Internet in general there is an abundance of faux-outrage (on Jezebel in particular it is a very common occurrence).

That's a bingo, and to a certain extent it's pieces like the Slate one that (indirectly) lead to this "if it's not perfect don't include it" mindset.

"Ehh…maybe you shoulda left it out or maybe workshopped it a bit, but I don't know if we're looking at something really transphobic here."

Thank you.

I'm sorry, but there is nothing "nuanced" about cherry-picking a depiction to be outraged about when the entire show is gently mocking EVERYONE. The fact that a transperson is included here is actually a sign of progress — Morgan is being an equal-opportunity offender.

You guys are a real barrel o' laughs.

Outrage culture at its soul-crushingly knee-jerkiest.

"Shows like Lost would have never existed if it weren't for the x-files success"

For your next trick, can you defend Lost? ;)

X-Files had a hand in "creating serialization" — like, in the 1990s, seriously? I'm sorry, but that is just a bridge too far for me (haven't you ever heard of soap operas??).
