It's unfortunate that these men see calling someone a man an insult. I know some very nice men, and when I call someone "man", it's a term of endearment.

I have only this to say: I am a white girl with dreadlocks who's gotten really frustrated with being told that I adopted this hairstyle to "be black". I'd bet real dollars that it's equally freaking frustrating to be a black woman with blonde hair being told she "wants to be white".
