Slip a K24A2 or A4 into it and it would probably be really fun. About 200HP and 170TQ. Would be as powerful as most v8's from that time period, weigh a lot less than those engines, and much better on fuel too.

No they are trim levels. Its just a Civic with changed engine and suspension just like the S3 is. Thats how it is now. Based on your argument the Mustang GT is NOT a higher trim than an EcoBoost Mustang, and theMach1 is also not just a trim over the GT .
