I agree, and that's strange now, considering it's gotten more or less serial by season. They don't need to make it purely procedural any more, so it's possible to have character growth. But it seems like rinse, repeat, and forget.

Yeah, same. I'm not sure if that makes me more or less critical. I binged it through September and was really excited to watch it live. I think this season would come off differently if I'd binge-watched it as well— the earlier episodes would be a little easier to push through.
Totally meant Gabriel. Reading fail. I agree with you about Gadreel too, fwiw. But I hope Gabriel will be running around unpredictably too, as a result of Metatron's meddling.
Supernatural is kind of in a unique spot for me. I genuinely like it, I love the actors, and think it occasionally flirts with being very good. But man, could I pick apart the things I don't like for hours.
Yeah, I agree with you. This season has been oddly disjointed. I'm ok with the echoes of the past (when they don't hit the same beats as before, and I do think it's veered too far into that occasionally) but my biggest complaint is just about completely separate and haphazard plot threads picked up and dropped…
Yeah, I groaned when Gadreel started in on the Dean psychoanalysis. How many times has that happened already?
Yeah, I agree this felt like a missed opportunity. If Metatron's writing stuff, a Changing Channels redux would have been really fun. Instead we got weird too-meta dialogue (saying RETCON! while you do something doesn't make it more interesting).
Yeah, I kind of got the feeling that this was attempting to set the entire season up in an episode. I'm not sure it's worked with everything (this season has felt disjointed to me) but I'm excited at what it's setting up going forward. I love the idea that Metatron's using the writing/prophecy mechanism to control the…
That's what I'm thinking, too. I feel like I'll look back on this season as a lot of wheel spinning and setup for Season 10.
I'd assume if it's ok for Metatron to read it's ok for Cas. That'd be an interesting choice, though.
It tied in nicely with the "you're the villain!" theme too. In my mind, there's another show about annoyed hunters trying to clean up after the Winchesters and co's involvement in apocalyptic events.
I'm fairly sure he'll be back. That would be 100% awesome. I really hope that happens.
I'm generally a sucker for when shows change up their title sequences, and I've loved when SPN has done it in the past ("Changing Channels" and that X-files one), and I liked this episode (this may be why I liked Fringe so much).
I mean, I know Metatron has done some awful things, but refer to Cas as "Cass"? That's unforgivable.
Offscreen: Anya's bunnies (it must be bunnies!)
I'd care about Aqua Man if he had a salmon ladder. Or if he was played by Manu Bennett.
Or a D+ episode of Arrow.
Yup, she totally looked at Assassin Gunn through the peephole, and had him show her his fake badge.
Is everyone here very stoned?
Actually LOLed at that. Now that's a crossover I want to see.
