Part of it is the “K” shaped recovery. Office workers who worked from home, didn’t get laid off, and didn’t get to go on vacations or go out to dinner at all last year are sitting on cash that they normally would have spent. Many have decided to use it to treat themselves to new cars, houses, etc.
