I'm looking for a quick post-work ritual- something I can do every day to remind me to relax and enjoy my free time. It's too cold for me outside, I don't belong to a gym, and my boyfriend and our dog pick me up, so I can't stop for a beer or anything like that. Any ideas? (I do like to whistle. What's the opposite of…
*shakes head* you want some of mine??
Corn, rice, and potatoes :-)
At a bar or a paper-napkin restaurant, there are pretty much two options- order it rare if you want it medium, and medium if you want it well done. (Order it well done if you want a chew toy for your dog). At a steakhouse, you're well within your rights to send it back if it isn't perfect. You shouldn't have to pay…
It's good to be aware that blood sugar often factors in. Tuna and crackers at 3 pm might help with the overwhelming urge to eat sugary or starchy food at 4:30. Mixing a little bit of regular into your diet soda might eliminate the craving for ice cream after dinner. I think cravings exist no matter what, but when…
You win this Ask the Readers. I award you 1000 Internetz.
From a consumer point of view, my preference is for almost startling visual austerity (it's a good way to stand out from the bombardment of stimuli everywhere else on the internet) but with an eye to pleasing aesthetics. I'd like a description of previous work or concrete qualifications. Super double bonus points for…
I agree with the author- notifications can get really out of hand. My email and Facebook aren't pushed. My phone is often muted (and, more importantly, mostly only people I want to talk to have the number). I don't even keep my work email open all the time- if you need an urgent response, that's what the phone is for.…
I can't agree that anonymous reviews are like graffiti. Graffiti is inherently an antisocial act. Anonymous reviews prevent fallout. I had an Ebay vendor call my cell phone repeatedly (he pulled the number from my shipping info) because I left negative feedback on a cell phone charger that blew a fuse in my car…
This is a very cool idea. I'm going to think about whether I have three things I want to accomplish and an extra hour.
Yeah, this one's not for me. It seems like it would come loose as you took things in and out, and that taking a bunch of food out of the fridge to replace the plastic wrap would be way more effort than wiping up the spill.
I second this advice. You have to make a loose sauce, otherwise it really suffers from baking. Making the sauce as you like it and then broiling is easier and faster.
No suggestions, but having a high top with 29" stools works for me.
Does cooking count? That can actually save money.
I'm pretty sure I've tried it and haven't liked the results. But it would be awfully convenient, so it might be worth another shot.
Sadly, you can't pull the steak out of the freezer when you get home from work and cook it. It only calls for an hour in the freezer. Completely frozen steak is stiff, which makes it hard to get good contact between the steak and the pan which messes up the sear. It would probably also take a long time in the oven and…
Agreed on the pricing. Over 50% of the original price is only likely to happen in unusual circumstances. For used furniture or electronics, under 25% is a better place to start.
Natural light is always better. Open the blinds or take the picture outside, especially if color is important. It's really hard to take a nice food photo with a flash. The light around sunrise and sunset is special. The light reflected off snow is special. Taking a picture from below will give everyone a double chin.…
The blogosphere in general seems to be morning-centric. I think it would be a good experiment. Is this a possibility, powers-that-be?
