This was patched about two months ago. Everyone sees the exact same density of foliage now, for better or worse. It’s an even playing field. Source: just do some reddit searches :P

I think the devs turned this off in a recent update so that turning foliage down doesn’t actually remove the leaves. Would need confirmation before I confidently spouted this as fact though, so please take with a grain of salt

They patched the game so that foliage is consistent on all graphical settings.

I’m pretty sure the REAL reason is so you don’t show up on the mini map when firing!
