I was looking at this about 18 months ago because they were so cheap.
Did a little research and read up on the same timing belt issue.

Why would they wait until 2017 if it is getting redesigned in 2018? It makes no sense. Whatsoever. Mazda makes some really dumb decisions for their sports car segment when it doesn't involve miatas.

The 2.3 MZR was a pretty good engine (I actually owned a MS3 for awhile). Even if the Direct Injection gave issues to aftermarket tuners and product developers it made gobs of torque.
