Lack of power? my 1988  Corolla Cross (Alltrac / Corolla Break / Corolla 4wd / Carib Sprinter) with AWD has only 100hp and keeps up with traffic just fine. Just slow car fast and it can be a lot of fun especially on dirt roads.

Disagree. don’t car what it looks like (its always looked like what you discribed) just like the large, airy greenhouse to look out and boxy shape for carrying things and it actually does trail stuff better than any other SUV in its class

the 2019 outback with CVT I tried was OK as auto trans go. I was ready for it to be awful but no. felt sprightly!

I’ve driven a 2019 Outback and it is just fine as an auto (and a lot better CVT compared to earlier models). Not terrible. I honestly didn’t notice tha it was a CVT. CVT does give you pretty good economy and the X mode has been helprul in a some situations.

I don’t really consider this as an SUV it just a tall hatchback like city cars used to be in the 70's - 80's. Boxy and upright for good packaging. sure it might have black wheel extensions and I dislike bloated SUVs as much as the next driver but this isn’t one.

I know this is wrong from Portlandia and I live in Australia!

The Forester XT is high Milage but with something this old its more about how its been treated and serviced than just Miles. Future classic!

Best car I’ve ever owned. Goes everywhere.

Subaru Turbo motors are not affected by the head gasket issues.

But the latest model is actually a really good drive even in Hybrid. Almost Mazda 6 levels. I’ve only tried the Australian model.

The Tercel 4wd.

These Mountain goats, 6 speed manual, incredilbly reliable and econmical and handle really well due to 50/50 weight distribution. Tardis levels of room and will do better than you would suspect off road. Lines so sharp Giorgetto Giugiaro would be proud with just the right ammount of wacky JDM. Off

In news just in Lancia have postponed using the Delta name for its next hatchback

Are you telling me you didn’t get that Tru-coat sealant?

In Europe and Australia I’ve often used ride sharing apps which at least allows you to choose your murderer. Can recomend!
Had to drive my Vanagon 800kms. Put an ad up and had a French medical student who knew how to drive manual take shifts behind the wheel while we sung Grace Jones tracks through the desert.

There are many rubber / cork / synthetic hybrid materials now that hold up very well.

I often specify cork in Architctural projects for flooring. Some people have bad associations to it from the 70's.

I was thinking after our previous discussion of a book I read a while a go that discussed a lot of the broader ethical discussions about not so much living sustainably but ethically within the modern condition. https://www.penguin.com.au/books/confessions-of-an-eco-sinner-9781407033594

I think the Corolla 4wd was very

MGB would be the worst contendor.

I sort of prefer the light grey. You could always try with some plastic dip paint to see how it looks.
