Yeah, trying for coquettish and not getting there, is my take.

It seems to just be girls doing it - it’s probably supposed to be cute and coquettish, or something. Like how Japanese girls (stereotypically) cover their mouths when giggling?
Honestly, I am waiting until most of those movies hit the DVD rental. Most of those films can easily be seen at home without much of difference. I want to see Moonlight because I hear so much good stuff about it. But I can wait another two months until it hits a rental. That’s the difference between that and say the…
There’s nothing wrong with being 43 (my age) and still liking cartoons and comic based movies. You think kids make up the bulk of marvel ticket sales?
Maybe I just want to be mindlessly entertained for my $20.
I think you hit the nail on the head. In LA it’s tough to find a movie playing on the weekend for less than $15 a ticket (not including food or drinks). At those prices, people are going to choose movies that are either best viewed on a big screen or movies of franchises that they are huge fans of and can’t wait until…
This. Going to a movie isn’t cheap anymore. There are no $5 matinees anymore, honestly there are no more matinees period. It’s $14 - $17 a pop for one person not counting overpriced popcorn and snacks.
I’ve never quite understood going to the movies to see reality. Like, people just talking or working, or doing yard work. You’ve got this amazing screen, sound system, etc., and it’s being used for the mundane. If I’m plopping down $10-$12 for a movie, I want to see intergalactic battles, Ant-Man swinging an airplane,…
I’ll admit: I haven’t seen any of them (although I intend to watch Hidden Figures). The last movie I saw in theaters was Rogue One, and before that it was Mad Max.
From the smell of most theaters, peeing customers aren’t missing any of the movie.
People aren’t seeing movies because they’ve become too expensive. In NYC, I pay on average, $15.00 a ticket. More if it’s in 3d or RPX or whatever tacked on nonsense charge. It’s a minimum of $50.00 just to sit down with my wife and kid. I enjoy going to the movies, but many people don’t have the luxury of ponying up…
But there’s no accounting for taste, the general audience in America considers Marvel movies to be the pinnacle of cinema at the moment.
I saw a resume once of an Ivy League law student who literally put that her interests were “Oscar winning movies and current events.”
Could she apple for a U-Visa? As I understand it, it works while the investigation is in process.
Aaaaand this is exactly why undocumented people don’t report crimes, whether they are the victim or a witness or have some other relevant information. The people who instigate these raids are idiots, making it a hundred times harder to fight real crime. Also, how fucking cruel!
A Pence administration would be heartbreaking but a Trump presidency is the end of liberal democracy as we knew it. As disgusting a choice as it is, I, too, have to pick Pence.
The difference is that Trump is a demented (perhaps seriously mentally ill) soft fascist who many fear could become a hard fascist or get us into a nuclear confrontation with North Korea.
And if we manage to get asshole impeached, we’re left with a guy that actually eliminated needle exchange programs as his state was ground zero for and HIV outbreak.
A couple of years ago, my state (PA) finally allowed syringes to be bought without a prescription.
I am suffering through this extended break. I can’t believe the nine-nine won’t be gracing our screens again until April.
