I miss the old AV Club/Mad Men discussion boards...
I’m also not loving the way they’re peppering in red carpet interviews between all the advertisement posts.
Remember when this would have been an AV Club feature, not... a link?
Having one of her sister’s celebrated artworks hanging on the wall in their cramped little home was a perfect little torture/callback to last season.
When Michaels described his “retirement” by comparing it to his pinata, but instead of his waist, of course the rope is tied around his genitals. Chidi’s low, drawn-out “Whaaattt?” while looking down and side-to-side was great. It doubled as an exasperated “Oh, come on!”
I love that the whole system falls apart so quickly because Michael doesn’t have any of the four humans quite as figured out as he thinks he does. I mean, he can figure out that Tahani will be tormented by a small house but not that setting her on such a quick downward spiral will wreck his plans. And I continue to…
Plus, the way she keeps obediently popping up whenever anyone says “Janet” continues to be deployed with impeccable comic timing.
I don’t think the demons had nearly this much interaction with the humans before. The beauty of the soul mate scam was they tortured each other without help. They’re never going to survive a long con
I like the interpretation that Alan Sepinwall had where he pointed out that most of these people demons pretending to be good place inhabitants are normally torturing people the old way and are not that good at / used to the improv stuff. They did well the first time around but clearly they aren’t ready to deal with…
I think Tahani and Chidi both made me laugh a LOT more than the first season simply because I know who they are and what they are like so seeing them deal with these problems (for what they think is the first time) really made me laugh a lot. Knowing Tahani’s luxury style and knowing Chidi can’t handle making…
For real. I just did a re-watch of the first season to prepare for this and the almond milk joke landed better for me this time and then to bring it back as his main reason for why he might not be in the good place really killed me. Such a good callback. The way Chidi reacted before revealing that was great because I…
I cackled with glee at Chidi going back to the almond milk as the cause of his eternal damnation.
I definitely think Michael will end up working with the humans to save his own life, because he’s already used up his second chance.
Tahani having to try to be what she always pretended to want to be was so delicious. That said, she looks so radiant in her “normal” clothing from last season, I’d be fine if they kept finding ways to make her fuel Eleanor’s inferiority complex, too.
Michael’s most human quality is a love of minutiae. His redemption will come when he moves from FRIENDS to SEINFELD.
So glad to have TGP back on my screen! Ted Danson (and his bowties) continue to be a delight. Tahani’s uncomfortableness with everything was wonderful I was laughing at the way Jameela Jamil delivered every line, she is so good. Once again TGP reminding me how much I am Chidi.
I’m so forking happy this show is back. Even if there was a sad lack of Jason and his budhole.
Shout-out to William Jackson Harper’s ability to imbue the word “what?” with a whole sentence’s meaning :)
While everyone’s tortures were interesting - except Eleanor’s, who’s uckily saddled with a meathead who goes to the gym at the drop of a shirt - Tahani’s made me cackle with glee. Short soul mate? Small house? Discovering why Crocs have holes? Absolute perfection. I could see a whole episode of her trying to deal with…
