I hate this and it breaks my heart. Whenever I hear things like this, I think “I’d never have done something so cruel as a teen,” and then I think, but would I? I would’ve been passive if I’d seen this kind of bullying. Which is just as bad.

gross. just gross. you’re really going to argue for the parental rights of a rapist? anyone who sexually violates someone else’s body, under ANY circumstances, is a violent dangerous person and should never be responsible for children, and should certainly never be allowed to be around a child who is the result of

my cousin had to deal with this all the time. her ex-husband raped her and she got pregnant (but its not rape because they were married, am i right guys?) even though she pressed assault charges and everything he’s clearly a fit parent and should be raising a child, obvs.
they had joint custody. the kid is 11 now - and

because women aren't people, and men are people, so women who get pregnant from rape (and hey, they're probably lying, amiright? dem crazy bitches are after that sweet rape money) shouldn't be able to stop the men (you know, the real people) from seeing their children. because ladies, we're incompetent amiright? our

The topic is too depressing but my love for you for this gif is sudden and unyielding.

Here’s the thing about this that was easy to miss in the segment: Part of the reason that rapists maintaining parental rights is important is not just because of the possibility of rapists gaining visitation/custody rights. (Obviously, that’s awful.) It’s also because rapists can use the threat of suing for custody as

With the difficulty involved in even getting a rape case to trial, let alone a conviction, I think that this would be an unreasonable request (that there be a conviction). I do agree that prosecuting rape should be easier. We should be testing all rape kits — ideally immediately after they are collected, maybe

Proposed alternate legislation from the GOP:

If a judge can reduce a sentence for a man who raped a 3-year old because he claims the rapist didn’t cause the kid any harm, then anything is possible.

What I took away from the segment is that a rapist can threaten a woman with a long, difficult custody battle, but will drop it in exchange for dropping criminal charges. Sick bastards will stoop to anything, as will the people who defend them.

I feel like we’ll never get anywhere with fights involving abortion, birth control, or rape until we have a widespread consciousness shift.

“ Probably a better and faster way to put a stop to this behavior would be...”

First of all, thank so much for this incredibly well-written and eye-opening piece.

It used to be that a woman was believed to be property of either her father or her husband.

Excuse my French for the following.

It saddens me to be so harshly reminded that in many ways law and society have not moved beyond the 17th century.

I'm surprised they didn't press additional charges of witchcraft against her, and then scientifically test it by tossing her in a pond.

How could the judge even allow this antiquated, non scientific, 17th century "test", introduced as evidence? I would think this alone would qualify it as a mistrial. This woman has been victimized by the court system. I hope she has a lawyer to appeal it.
