We call them Swamp Yankees around here. They do exist but they’re a [loud, usually drunk] minority.

If the university wants to put itself in the role of adjudicating guilt or innocence with respect to alleged offenses then yes, it needs to spell this stuff out. Alternatively, the university could elect to refer sexual assault cases to a real judicial system and avoid all this, but they don’t want to do that because…
Ken Howard, who played the dad, was really wonderful in this film full of wonderful performances. I love the scenes between him and Shirley MacLaine. Sadly, he died this past March.
UGH KINJA - more comfortable being ignored.
This is so true. As a woman of that age, I have been surprised how liberating I personally find it, but I've always been a person more comfortable
I read Sears with my first kid, thinking it was just a regular mainstream baby book. While I have zero beef with attachment parenting as a general philosophy, Sears just disgusts me with his judgment and predictions of doom for working mothers, mothers who don’t or can’t breastfeed, mothers who choose to sleep train,…
Vulva-haver here and Scott devotee for decades! I guess it's a matter of perception because I don't find it at all uncomfortable on my lady bits, but when it comes to the other end, it is far and away superior to those pillowy ones, which just never feel like they actually clean anything.

True story: a seagull once flew down and grabbed an *entire steak* off the grill on the patio of our beach house. The grill was on at the time. It was heavy, so the seagull didn’t get far - dropped it right next to the grill. (My dad, being a dad, rinsed it off and threw it back on the grill, then fed it to us before…
This was my big problem with the whole "lean in" thing. The idea that women hamper themselves by not negotiating or asking for mentoring or "leaning in" is so problematic in the face of studies that show that doing these things WON'T HELP and in fact are more likely to hurt. But yes, let's tell women it's their fault…
I was agreeing with you, with the mild clarification that exceptions to the American Rule are pretty common, I wouldn’t really characterize them as “occasional quirks.”
The American Rule (each party bears its own costs) has LOTS of exceptions, uncluding in specific statutes with what are called "fee shifting" provisions, rules, such as rules that bar "bad faith" or frivolous litigation (see Fed R Civ P 54), and in contracts, where fee shifting provisions are generally enforced.
And more so, they will be establishing a jump-start on the *true* generic that is expected from Teva in the next year or so by stocking pharmacies with THEIR generic.
I used to so some work with Johnson & Johnson, which has a "corporate credo" that they tout constantly, which talks about corporate honesty and responsibility and damned if in EVERY SINGLE lawsuit J&J executives didn't get SLAMMED with (often unfair) questions about it in every.single deposition.
Fair point, but that doesn’t really make it better, IMO. As an ENORMOUS fan of the books it just always bothered me that she seemed so old on the show, even if she was supposed to be “aged up” to 13. (I think a 16/17 year old actress could convincingly play 11, but it would have to be the right one, and it wasn't MF).…
I love the MF version but it is not flawless. For example, MF was 18 when the series started and was NEVER believable as an 11-year-old. And the series left out a lot of the good stuff from later books. I have no problem with someone making more Anne. If it's done well, it will be fun to have another series to watch,…
I think it’s the trailer (as the reviews seem pretty good). It’s like they are trying to make it seem hyper-dramatic by focusing on smashing plates, arguments, and death, but the subject matter doesn’t lend itself to that treatment (and doesn’t need to). The booming, overdramatic music isn’t helping.

My comment was in reference to the “Gentle” — the non-foaming one. I think only the poll lists it wrong?

That’s a good analogy. In it’s adjectival form it seems to be descriptive while acknowledging personhood, while as a noun it eliminates personhood in a way.
