In one of the movies a toy compliments Woody for being so good at the staying still thing so I don't think it's involuntary.

He becomes a trash collector in the final movie. Not only that if you watch the film his parents ignore their children and the dad is possibly abusive of the children, hence why Sid takes his anger out on the toys.
Just take this as mostly satire. It's more enjoyable that way rather than seeing it as pointless nitpicking.
Always like these videos but in the movie a person we should feel sorry for is Sid.

See, this bugs me quite a bit. Back when she released her first video, I felt there were some problems with it, so, as best I could, I explained why I felt that way. People chose to take it as "concern trolling," and much, much worse. Her defenders, at the time, remind me of the same people who attack and deride her.
