I feel like this is being dramatic and that people don’t really understand what a “state of emergency” does over here. Particularly at the state level, it’s to free up the budget to respond to disasters at a particular time. It’s not some super far-reaching martial law shit people keep trying to potray it as.

I’m continue to be shocked that people don’t realize that these are public universities. You don’t have to be invited, well, at least at some. Some do have a policy that you have to be invited by a campus group. But, hell, you could request the use of a hall for your group if you wanted to.
I don’t know how it is for you, but it’s very easy for me to compartmentalize him. Yeah, he’s really not worth shit as it relates to actual opposition, and this is still better than what most of his colleagues are willing to do. I don’t know any progressives who genuinely trusts this guy with their lives.
There would have likely been no going into Iraq were it not for 9/11. I know people forget this, but It was hard enough for Dubya to use that to get us in there. McCain may have still wanted to eventually, but the likelihood of him getting us in there would have been difficult, less likely than more likely.
