To me it seemed like a 90s indie movie throwback. I don't think it was self-consciously going for that, but a lot of the 90s indie movies were very technically awkward in all the ways that this show was (seriously, I saw "Chasing Amy" on TV the other day and was shocked at how amateurish it all came off….I didn't

Too much TV right now. It seems like most outlets are releasing everything in May now for some reason.

It's a solid film, save maybe for Keanu Reeves. I like Reeves, but he has a narrow range.

He was responsible for taking Fassbiner's films to the next level. Watch all of Fassbinder's films in the 70s and there's a noticeable jump in quality whenever Ballhaus was the cinematographer, starting with "Whity." The long tracking shots weren't just a Scorcese thing. They were a trademark of Ballhaus's even in

I always wonder if left wing TV personalities are secretly happy about Trump. He's been a massive boon. Maddow has been regularly beating O'Reilly, not just in demo but total numbers, over the past 2 weeks. That would have been unheard of at any time over the past decade she's been on TV.

I thought when Fox News anchors said something controversial and advertisers fled, they just picked up the slack with Life Alert, Rascal Scooter, Commemorative Coin, and Diabetes Medication Delivery advertising. Those 4 things are 90% of their ads anyway.

I don't get the sense that any of them are particularly ideological. I also doubt that Rupert's kids will change the network much. The right wing talk radio on TV model sells, so I suspect they will mostly keep it as is.

As I said up thread, O'Reilly is 70. He won't last much longer on Fox anyway. And James Murdoch has been pushing to remake the network. O'Reilly will have to go at some point soon. Why not now?

If he does anything, he'd probably go back to radio. He used to have a radio show, I don't know if he still does.

Breitbart really doesn't like Fox News. Fox and Breitbart are aligned in political agenda, often, but they target different ends of the right wing spectrum. Fox targets old white people. Breitbart targets fringe crazies, who also are often old and white, but not exclusively. A big part of their crowd is also the

That's maybe not realistic for friends, but it's definitely realistic for family. My 3 sisters do that all the time. They will have massive blow ups where they say things that seemingly cross uncrossable lines. Then 2 days later they are fine. It's weird.

It's weird, though, because the latter seasons of the show weren't all that great, but the series finale was so good that people view them more positively in retrospect. It's the opposite of what happens with most TV. I can't think of many beloved shows from that first Golden Age of TV where people weren't let down

Yeah, I don't find this album at all depressing. But I've never found art that deals with death intelligently and honestly depressing. To the contrary, I find it instructional and utterly necessary.

I don't care about the state thing as long as he keeps making music.

And they've all also been slightly tongue in cheek. I mean, Stevens would dance. Dude can't dance at all.

I no longer care about length. I'd rather play a 10 hour quality game than a 50 hour game that's just meh. There are too many games to play these days. Who has time for them all? When I buy stuff I typically think of things in terms of time cost, rather than price.

I'm a big Assassin's Creed hater (I personally don't think there's a good game in the series, although AC: 2 and Black Flag are less bad than the others), but I do think the model can be done well. I liked the Arkham games, just because their combat is so fun. And the Witcher 3 is probably the best example, as it

It started with the Assassin's Creed series, which always had tons of filler side stuff (i.e. collecting feathers, doing repetitive assassination missions, towers, etc, etc). Then Ubisoft adapted that model to all their games and it's since spread like a cancer. Now almost every game is just icons on a map.

I agree. My tolerance for filler depends entirely on the gameplay. I've gladly done tons of filler, chasing achievements in the Souls games and Dragon's Dogma, but I didn't mind as I love the combat in those games.

I guess I'm more curious how they kept tract of people. Like, the early-modern equivalent of "Social Security" numbers. I've never looked into it. I've always suspected it would have been easier to reinvent yourself and exploit the lack of unique identifiers, but, yeah, I'm sure financial resources made it
