Dude had to be so high when he wrote that scene the review is referencing, but doesn't want to spoil. It's such a genuinely out of nowhere moment. Early John Waters is often just shock for shock's sake, but that scene in particular is interesting as it's really not a gross out scene or anything (I remember this

My favorites of his are probably:

It wasn't funny and it was kind of cruel. I don't remember actively hating it, though. Although, I confess I can barely remember it at all.

Grittiness rating: 37 pearls dropping on the ground in slow motion after Mrs. Wayne's necklace is broken.

Why would anyone play Fallout 3 when New Vegas exists?

I can't watch Frozen because all the characters eyes are very far apart. It's creepy and aggressively ugly.

Always Sunny's Season 1 is very bizarre, though. It's not even the same show that it eventually became. Lots of shows take time to find their legs, but always sunny doesn't even seem to exist in the same universe of the show that it eventually became.

Agreed. I'm hoping they make Gamby more human than Kenny. That's why I'm bitching and moaning about how over the top this show can go. It seems like it's going to end up being what E&D was. And by the end of E&D I not only didn't care about Kenny, but I was bored to shit by him.

See I don't see that at all. To me their characters are just cartoonish.

I really liked this episode too. I agree it was different in tone than the others, but this episode is more like the show I wish this show was. Whereas I haven't been terribly enthused by how over the top everything else has been.

Eh. All we have to do is wait 10 years. By 2018 China will surpass North America as the number one consumer of Hollywood movies in the world. In a decade, it won't be financially feasible to have white male leads.

Harlan County, USA is ultimately a really uplifting movie. There's some ugly shit in that movie, but it's also back when labor was still really well organized and had some power.

I grew up in Southern Minnesota, just 30 minutes from Northern Iowa. There are tons of racists in that area, both on the Northern Iowa side and the Southern MN side. I've never seen confederate flags being sold in gas stations, though. It's always been more of a passive aggressive type racism. People want to be

Nah, it lessened the more serious issues it tried tackling (especially depression) by treating them like a sitcom. I was depressed when I saw it too, but I thought it was shit.

Yeah, this post is puzzling. Is AV Club offering paid content now that is just snarky enough to not be quickly dismissed as paid content, but not so much that it's not a solid plug?

Yeah, I was kind of worried that the DNC would be boring. But this was amazing political theater. Crowd was hostile, awesome speakers, crowd turns around and by the end of the night everything goes out on a high note.

Yeah, it's been out on DVD in the UK for ages. This must be an error or something.

He did an interview a couple years ago where he said he's tried to get things made, but no one funds 10-20 million dollar movies anymore. Also, "Art School Confidential" was a massive flop, I guess.

Ah, OK. Apparently Boyle didn't like "Porno," so it's only very loosely based on it, if at all. Or that's what wikipedia says. The original plan was to just play 10 years older even though they are all actually 20 years older. But not sure what they are doing now.

Is it an adaptation of Porno, though? Porno was set just 10 years after Trainspotting. The way porn is made, sold, and consumed has changed so drastically since then that I'm not sure how the storyline could work if set in the present. And the actors are 20 years older.
