I like him fine for what he is. I haven't liked much of his comedies since the Office, but I think his stand up is fine and he's a great podcast host.
Sarah is by far the worst. Honestly, though, there's nothing wrong with these people a few years of grinding poverty wouldn't fix. Even just having to hold down a real job, regardless of what that job is. That's probably the biggest thing I hate about these characters, at the end of the day: the fact that they seem…
So is Ali actually bisexual, or is she just dating women to get into an awesome gender studies graduate program? It didn't seem to me like she was terribly interested in women until she met that feminist professor whose grad program she was applying to (and she promptly showed Syd off to her at that party a few…
They've already stretched it too far. The show lost me season 2. Not because nothing happens (I don't mind that) but because I think it got repetitive, meandering, and gimmicky in the way that it seemed to always present equally balanced evidence that Daniel is/is not guilty. Also, Daniel seemed really inconsistent…
I didn't like it at all and was flabbergasted by the orgasmic reviews at the time. It seemed very similar to his previous 2 albums, so I didn't understand why people liked it so much. I think it's just because he went so long without releasing one.
pitchfork just gave a good review to the newest enya album.
The Little Princess is currently in rotation on HBO Family. Just saw it the other night. It's probably on HBO Go.
She's been adequate in a few really well written roles, but I can't think of anything she's done where her acting has shown through on its own. She's pretty mediocre as an actress.
It's already leaked. Haven't listened yet.
I have no idea how anyone could say Inglorious Basterds is as good as Pulp Fiction.
Tom Hardy stole the show in that one video on youtube where he randomly visits pound puppies, just to have a cuddle.
To me Birdman was just a thin pretense of a film that existed solely to justify the elaborate gimmick of its cinematography. The cinematography was technically really well done, but as you said, it adds nothing to the film. And even then, the technical fireworks of it were greatly diminished by the very obvious…
All I remember of Tim Blake Nelson is that one interview he did with AV Club where all he talked about was how he has a BA in classics from Brown. Like he'd work it into all of his answers. It was an odd enough thing that it sticks out in my mind.
Hateful 8 was pretty underwhelming, but maybe that's just because so much of its marketing was about its cinematography. Seems a strange film to me to shoot in 70mm given that 90% of it is just people talking in a room.
I wouldn't say Gravity's camera work was a gimmick. It definitely elevated what was fairly so-so material. That film wouldn't be half as captivating without its cinematograhy. I'm not crazy about "Birdman," though.
Me too (although at 30). I think the bigger problem is the dithering around part. I had to work my ass off to get in. Nothing we've seen from Ali indicates she's especially interested in Academia, especially good at writing or research, or especially interested in putting in the necessary work. She just kind of…
It was passable. Have fun at your future job editing law school text books to sell to the thousands of other suckers going to law school.
I really liked "Phoenix" when I saw it, but was taken aback when it showed up at the top of best of lists. It has a great ending, but its central premise is incredibly silly in a dime store romance novel sort of way and the whole thing struck me as enjoyable, but not especially memorable.
There's a pretty big broadway bootleg scene where people trade videos of shows. You just have to search a bit harder for it. I've been a member of a trading forum for ages and have seen pretty much everything that's been on broadway from the past decade (and much prior to that) that I've wanted to see, despite…
