Avoiding investing: Investing can be intimidating, especially if you do not have a lot to invest. The good news is that you do not need a lot of money or a fancy financial advisor to help you invest. Instead, check with your bank to see if it offers investing and wealth management services.

"Well, then, tell me your 'number', and we'll see what we have to work with." :D

Most environments I negotiate in there is a posted price. If there's a posted price, that's the anchor for negotiation. If I'm looking at a posted price, *I* make the offer; if I have set the posted price, *you* make the offer. You can do

Negotiating on a one-time deal is an art. Negotiation for a living is a science. If you're selling your couch for the once-every-six-years CL interaction, do whatever feels right. If you're working the table in a booth at a convention, it's a different strategy. You put prices on things, and if someone wants to

Yeah, it's not a bad tactic. Like many others, though, it's less likely to work with folks who do a lot of negotiating. All these recommendations are great for Craig's List negotiations. Much less so for many other forums.

This work REALLY well if they aren't used to negotiating. Just wait. They may knock off more, or offer more, just because you're not jumping at the bait.

My response to that question is always, "Hey, I'm not gonna buy it *and* sell it. I told you what I want, now tell me what you wanna pay and we'll see if we can get together."

I don't see ads. I mean, I know they have their own ad network, but none of my Yosemite apps show me ads. What's your point?

Interesting. Your comment says "It's easier to read" and the comment below yours says "It's harder to read". For me, it's completely irrelevant as to difficulty of reading.

Nice find.

I've had trouble finding wallets that I like, so one day, on an interminable conference call, I picked up some scraps of heavy duty ballistic nylon I had laying around, cut a pattern from three spaced credit cards, clamped and sewed some flaps, and voila, a wallet that rolls up around ~10 cc sized items.

My daughter is in a CC school and I've not seen any of the weird math problems people keep posting on the web. I've tutored my wife through math 120 and I'm my daughter's tutor in algebra right now. I use algebra and trig regularly (though the calculus I learned is long gone and I'll be damned if I have ever needed to

Yeah, definitely a good point. I'd rather die of a catastrophic heart attack than a long cognitive decline into dementia and dependency, or stroking out and becoming a rutabaga. That said, I don't wanna go any earlier than I have to, but I'm with you - there's no "good way" to die of 'natural causes'.

Ah. I went through it again and didn't fill out the height/weight etc, and it said my BMI was 23, this time. Must be the default. I didn't even notice the height/weight slot last time.

Weird. It decided my BMI was 23.5, without even asking me height or weight.

Right! That's exactly the sort of thing I'm talking about. If you can make a real, 'human' connection with the interviewer, it will go a long way in your favor when they're sitting there staring at a pile of resumes and notes at the end of the day.

This actually depends on how thick the bottom of the pan is, but it's worth noting that our lovely stainless-clad copper base frying pan spreads the heat much better (according to the non-contact thermometer and our new FLIR One) but still doesn't fry things nearly as well.

Also never forget that having interesting hobbies get you the attention of the interviewer and will make you stick in his/her mind. It's a crapshoot what they might find interesting, so in the answer to the inevitable "hobbies" question, I like to say stuff like, "pool, reading, and being a mad scientist". (That's

This is the sort of uninformed opinion that interferes with real progress. Do some research, FFS. You can snark all you want, but there's no treatment but bariatric surgery that has success rates that would get a medicine past any review board.

Eggz-Actly!

"You made up the part about there being no cure for being overweight."

There is no cure for being overweight. At least, no study I've ever seen shows a cure that would pass medical muster for any other condition. If you can produce such a study, I'd be extremely interested. Some bariatric surgery studies do show some

There's so much confusion over health and nutrition that it's easy for charlatans to sell supplements and cures that don't work—like green coffee extract for weight loss and "miracle cures" that treat diabetes. NPR notes that fake cures are typically targeted to people who are overweight or have a serious disease
