@gearhead_318: I seem to recall our department having the same issue, the mix of cars was hard to maintain plus the chief caught some heat in the paper for driving another Mercedes as his "personal car". They abandoned the program shortly after that resorting to selling them instead.

Down were I'm from the police used to frequently "re-purpose" confiscated vehicles for use to patrol the freeways. Seeing motorists pulled over by an old Mercedes E-Class was always amusing.
