Actually, you can edit the speed dial perferences for the Mac version of Opera as well. Just use Spotlight to find 'speeddial.ini. Make sure Opera is not running when you edit this file. Use TextEdit to add the following right above the first Speed Dial entry (there has to be at least one page saved in speed dial).
