That’s great. Glad she’s doing well. Thanks for replying, and sorry for “criticizing”.

This is SO great! Thank you so much, this is super insightful!

...except for those that get euthanized every day for aggression issues. You’re the one who thinks choke and shock collars are unimaginably cruel, so sounds like you’re the crazy dog lady to me, lol.

In the wise words of Billy Joel:

In the wise words of Billy Joel:

You’re assuming a shock collar or choke collar would cause them pain, though, which is not necessarily true.

Ah! You have direct experience with this. Much respect. I see, so he’s using poor terminology within the field by saying “creating a positive experience” instead of “counter-conditioning”. Very interesting!

I’d love to know more about what you do and how Cesar is bad for it (truly, sincerely; I love animal training!).

I mean, I don’t interpret his methods as “physical punishment”, but a lot of people who are misunderstanding what he does might. A firm touch to redirect a dog’s attention is not “physical punishment”.

Why not? What do you think of Jackson Galaxy, the cat behaviorist? Do his methods meet your qualifications of being scientifically validated behavioral therapy techniques? He’s got a successul and interesting show.

The interest in these shows comes from showing the before and after of the pet’s behavior and the impact

So you’re telling me, if you had to rehabilitate an extremely aggressive dog that killed other animals and had bit humans before, and absolutely nothing was working with them and they had to be put down, you wouldn’t try a choke collar or a shock collar? You would rather just euthanize the animal?

Never say never. No

Before I explain my rationale further, I just want to disclaim that I have no experience in this arena of actually helping children deal with bullies so of course it’s all theoretical and you’re free to ignore it as the one who’s dealing in the practical and of course knows far more than me about the actual situation

I managed to go all of AC: Rogue without ever using or understanding how to use the Heavy Shot... LOL. Playing Black Flag now after the fact is enlightening me to some of the more nuanced fundamentals of sea combat...

Yikes! Sounds like you went into full mama bear mode and did what it takes to protect your cub, so good on you.

They’re like the 3 rulers in charge at the top of the Targaryen hierarchy. Westeros was original conquered by 3 Targaryens that rode 3 dragons and ruled together, family or something along those lines. The Targaryen seal has a dragon with 3 heads to represent that. So Dany would rule with 2 others- one of them

He says all the time that he doesn’t teach animal training, and that for that you’d need to see another trainer. He just rehabilitates behavior and how the owners interact with their dogs in ways that might be promoting the bad behaviors.

Well, the proof is in the pudding. If this dude knows far better dog training techniques than Cesar’s then he should start his own show advocating for those healthier techniques and rehabilitating the same types of cases that Cesar does (excessively aggressive dogs). If he’s correct then he should be able rehabilitate

The thing with all of these training techniques is that you only need to use the ones that are relevant to the behaviorial issues your dog is having or goals you’re trying to achieve.

If you don’t have a problem with your dog begging for food in a way that annoys you, or with your dog being aggressive or protective of

Totally. More than one way to skin a cat (yuck yuck) when it comes to training and different methods will suit different people and pets. Cesar himself has admitted his techniques are far more effective with “red-zone” cases of overly aggressive dogs, whereas shy, fearful dogs are more difficult for him and take

Nvm, misunderstood, thought you were asking for a cat behaviorist, and kinja won’t let me delete my comment. :P

It’s just a physical feedback to reinforce whatever you’re training them to do that you can substitute for treats.

So at first you train them to associate the clicker with treats, so it becomes positive feedback to them. Then when you’re training them to do other stuff, you click to let them know they did it correctly
