VW Golf TDI or any VW group TDI Engine. The CVT and manual are great, they have instant torque, and give great mileage.

I think the Honda CR-Z is horrible useless. Although it looks cool, it doesn't have back seats, a big hatch, or good gas mileage. It is also expensive. If I want a hybrid, I want good gas mileage. I also want a big trunk with a hatch. You get none. It also doesn't drive fun like the CR-X.
