He did, if you listen to the narrator, he did mention activating smartbombs once he got far enough away from the station (the game won't let you activate any weapons against concrete NPC structures, like stations or gates) and more than once commented on frigates dying.

In my experience, comparable speeds and features have been cheaper by about $10 than the only other serious competitor in the area (Comcast). Then, when Verizon rolled out their Quantum update (whatever it was that basically doubled everyone's speeds for like $10), that pushed them out even farther.
