I just watched the General for the first time and couldn't agree with you more. I can't believe it was a flop that almost ruined his career! At least he lived long enough to (hopefully) appreciate the later critical reevaluation.

Lady Vanishes is wonderful! I love that early Hitchcock, and you're right, the period details are what really sell them.

Halfway through both Ellison's "Invisible Man" and Plato's "Five Lectures." Watched Neil Jordan's "Mona Lisa" for the first time, Bob Hoskins was such a goddam talent. Found some obscure Mr. Airplane Man CDs at a Half Price Books, they might be one of the greatest punk blues bands ever, these ladies are badasses!

That's amazing! I like your theory; it's also amazing how (seemingly) humble and gracious all three of them are, as well.

That's ridiculously adorable. Being a little older, my punk fashion icons were Rancid in 93/94 and I remember saving for bullet belts, studs/spikes, etc. hoping to look like Lint and….looking like a pudgy Jewish kid whose parents owned a military surplus store😄

Verve has a three CD set called "the Verve Story" that's heavy on Jacquet on the first disc and I'm pretty sure his reading of that is on there, but I'm not positive.

Saw them a few years ago, as well. I'm not sure any human is aging as well as Debbie Harry (maybe Emmylou Harris).

Sorry, Delt! Although, really that could be a lot worse during those awkward years (Meat Loaf springs to mind).

Everything Weird Al Yankovic available In 1989. Bonus points because 9 year old me sorta already looked like him. It's fine though, heavy is the heart that truly dares to be stupid.

Goddam truth, J'onn.

Doesn't minstrel? Who is he, Amiri Baraka? He's the safest choice white America (especially the well to do part) has had for decades.

Agreed, wholeheartedly. Wasn't going to bat for that at all, more pointing out that whatever robe, cassock, or military uniform is above the boot, traditionally it's firmly on the neck of the many. Always been about control.

"Romper Stomper." Add Nazi to your adjectives and holy shit is he believable.

Does that rely on comments? If not, 10,000% agree.

If you don't think Hitlers hatred of Jews was based in Christianity, you're myopic, at best. If you don't think Stalin and Mao's cults of personality were state religions, you don't quite understand the control aspect endemic to religion (for the most part) these last 5,000 years.

Rosalie, anyone who believes in art, humanity, empathy, and tolerance is Sorrow today. Be sad today, more determined tomorrow.

Please do! I really missed that this year.

Is that Lord Lucan's werewolf brother? Oh, and "incites" for the record.

Yeah, somebody explain Occam's Razor to her. Stat.

Probably the same guy who blew up the Chicken Man in Philly last night.
