To be fair, my Royals were 90 feet away from the championship, so I feel anything is possible. Between Theo, Joe Madden, Lester, and that farm system, it's the best they've looked in 25 years. Anyway, happy new year, Whovy, good luck to your Pats!

But, but, but, the Cubs win it all! Isn't that crazy!?!?

Watched the Monsieur Hulot trilogy with my wife while our little stray recovered from her spaying and tooth removal. Marvelous movies, Jacques Tati was such a genius at scene composition.

I'm so glad Hot Water Music and Avail cast such a long shadow across 21st century punk. I love NoFX but it was really annoying in the 90s/00s when everyone was aping that flat sneer.

Upvoted for accuracy.

Good luck in your romance and resolutions! Story of Film was great, so many neat parallels across the different eras.

You're welcome! Happy New Year!

I would recommend Joseph Campbell's "Skeleton Key" to read along with it. You'll read it out of order but that couldn't matter less with a book that ends beginning the sentence at the start. Good luck! Oh, also read it aloud, if possible, Joyce wrote it for musicality not comprehension, especially during the lists.

Ha! Way to show your loyalty, Scientologists and Shruggalos!!

Totally missed that! Kudos!!

Already my favorite book (note username) 😄 For this reading I'll be using the Annotated Ulysses because that's just how lit nerds do!

You're very welcome, Trivia, happy new year!

They're slowbuilding, for sure, but definitely rewarding. Hope you enjoy them, also if you have Hulu plus practically all the Japanese Criterion are streaming. There's some phenomenal movies in there (Samurai 1,2,&3, etc).

They're not kungfu movies, but Ozu is an absolute master of pacing and storytelling. I've only seen "Good Morning" and "Tokyo Story" but they're two of the best movies I've ever seen.

Zadie Smith's essays on great books is fantastic: readable but erudite, personal and historical. Really good stuff.

On #19 for the Modern Library top 100 of the 20th century (working towards 1) so I'm excited to finish that. Other than that, watch all the Ozu and Kurasawa I have missed thus far. And when not enjoying my cultural vegetables, as it were, so many Kung fu movies. Happy New Year, everybody!!

A great actor who, judging from his Random Roles, was a genuinely nice fellow. My wife and I are playing our homemade Gilmore Girls drinking game, in memorium. RIP.

It's definitely pret-tay, pret-tay, pret-tay good. (Scrunches face, shakes head back and forth),

Screeching Weasel did a great job with it, back when I could listen to them without picturing Ben Weasel hitting women.

Als made an incredibly perfect Branch Rickey. RIP.
