I think it’s because of Gawker’s self-inflicted mortal wound with the Hulk Hogan’s sex tape case. Now they will be trying to be extra careful to make it look like they are a legitimate news source. It would be nice if they gave some data to go with it. Also, rather than being worried about the safety of the rapists, they should report them to the police.

This is not a report. It is opinion, and it is based on several personal interviews, rather than doing an actual field study. Also, the Swedish model doesn’t criminalize the sex worker, but the rapist.

If you know it so well, maybe try showing some empathy to them.

This is what annoys me of randians and objectivists of all kinds: that you are so sure that absolute freedom is going to work very well for everybody, including the people who has a lot less privilege than yourself.

All the reports i’ve read about Sweden say that, while the proportion of trafficked women to free sex workers remained the same, the total amount was greatly diminished. The conflicting reports otoh have been financed by international organizations tied to women trafficking.

Yeah. In my Physics college in Spain, there was a handful of people whom we had jokingly commented that we wouldn’t be surprised if they would made the news some day for going postal. But that’s the thing, in Spain they would have a hard time getting a gun.

It’s a catch-22 though. If the issue is publicized, it will attract copy-cats, as you said, looking to go out with a bang. If it isn’t, it will not register as a problem in people’s mind, and will never get a solution.

In that sentence, i wasn’t speaking specifically of sex work, but of work, in general. Since i do not believe in the randian idea that any contract that is mutually agreed between two parts is valid, and the government shouldn’t meddle in that, i support legal regulations for all kinds of work, in order to stop abuses.

People in general don’t have a lot of autonomy, when it comes to employment. You work or you go hungry and homeless.

The problem is that some of these frustrated white males blame women and minorities for their problems rather than blaming the wealthy elite.

Because being forced to do another job isn’t rape. Being forced to have sex is rape. And as far as I am concerned, I don’t care if someone else is forcing you directly, or if they are just taking advantage of the circumstances forcing you.

All work is done under duress: you have to work to feed yourself, to have a roof on top of your head, etc.

On the other hand, sex under duress is rape.
