I think the Butlerian Jihad book was the one I read. That always sounded like a cool piece of the Dune backstory that I wanted to know more about. It turned out to be a travesty of fiction; I only finished it because I was bed-ridden with the flu for a couple days with nothing else to do.

I’ve never read a romance novel, but I guess I assumed they were all pretty disposable so wouldn’t have something like a canon. I could be wrong. As for the mystery genre I submit the following canon authors: Arthur Conan Doyle, Agatha Christie, Edgar Allan Poe. I also kinda want to say Asimov, since so many of his

I read Foundation as an adult and loved it. Those “interminable scenes” don’t seem as long as an adult, I think. Again, matter of taste.

Thanks. I actually put a bit of effort into trying to capture my precise impressions of the whole writhing mess.

I agree totally with #2 (somewhat ameliorated in sequels) and sorta with #4. The others are a matter of taste. Still a canonical SF bucket list book, IMO.

“Are Dune’s followup books worth reading?”

No Foundation. I call shennanigans.

There’s several authors with more than one book: Neil Gaiman, Heinlein, A.C. Clarke. I think it would’ve been better to only have one book per author, though.

The Golem and the Jinni is an interesting choice. It’s a good book and I’d recommend it, but I’m not sure it merits inclusion on a bucket list.

“Slow.”

Yeah, I think that’s right.

Is that what happened? Whatever it was, it was a pain in the ass and I could never find the one with the Martin story that I was missing. At any rate, that long nightmare is now over :)

I’m glad this collection came out. Two of these stories I’d easily found in other collections, but one was published in an anthology (Legends, I think) and I could only ever track down an abridged version of that. Of course, the Martin story as well as some others I were interested in were the ones cut out. Definitely

I’d think a legit fantasy sports site would realize that it’s a huge conflict of interest to allow your employees to play your own service and would ban the practice.

Ha, I didn’t even notice that when I first read the article. You see what you expect, I guess.

Neutrinos are fascinating little buggers. A well-deserved prize.

That Karnak book wasn’t on my radar yet, but sounds interesting.

I’m a new Marvel fan and have read a bunch of the recent Inhuman related comics. They’ve been largely entertaining but the only characters I really care about about are Kamala and Medusa. Black Bolt is sort of cool but it’s hard to characterize someone who doesn’t talk.

It may not be good, but it is wildly entertaining.

Was that Busta Rhymes there for a sec?
