There was something about revenge for previous wars, but that wasn't developed enough to stick in my mind. And I had no idea what Thanos (?) wanted. It just kind of felt like "Here are are the bad guys and here are the good guys. Got at it."

Ha, I must have forgotten that! :)

Ha, I've not been tempted to read that one. It's just a bunch of moralizing, right?

GOTG was wildly fun and entertaining but I'm not sure that makes it the best. For one thing, it felt fairly incomplete to me, and seemed that it might as well have had a big "TO BE CONTINUED" at the end. I didn't really get the motivations of any of the villains either. Among the Marvel movies, I liked Cap 2 better.

Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. A friend of mine published a historical fiction novel with Alcott as the main character (obligatory link to purchase). I obviously had to read my friend's book and I figured I should read something of Alcott's so I had some context. I didn't expect to like it at all but I cried my

Ha, actually one of the first words I heard in Vancouver was the Canadian "sorry" so I got the accent right away. But you're right that there isn't a lot of strong accents going around.

I lived there at the time of the Olympics. It was actually extra warm then.

Great image. Not sure if I've ever seen that direct comparison before. Another interesting comparison:

OMG, there's really a large contingent of people who think Alaska is an island?

Yeah, but you "ar" Kansas, aren't you?

More than a few times, I've heard it referred to as the Los Angeles of Canada. It doesn't rain a lot in LA of course, but they are both pretty mild and have a big entertainment industry.

Well, you do get severe winters (not the worst in the US, though). My point was that Vancouver is never very cold, even in the middle of winter.

Yeah, that doesn't surprise me that much. Lots of Americans don't know how mild it is in Seattle, for example.

Exactly. It rains 10 months a year. The other two months it is the most beautiful place on Earth, though.

I used to live in Vancouver, Canada and I've since moved back to the US east coast, near Philadelphia. Everyone I talk to here seems to think Vancouver is cold and snowy, where in reality Philly has a far more severe winter. I guess they all think Canada=cold, but Vancouver is super mild.

I always understood it as a statement about free will and what that means for the self. If you are actually free, than you can have no constraints upon your decision-making. Any substantive notion of a self, however, would be such a constraint since it would involve things like desires, values, predilections, etc that

There was an initial order of 13 episodes, so we get at least 5 more after the holidays. But quoting from Wikipedia:

I might go so far as to say that Ghostbusters is the most fun movie ever.

I'm sure there will be a whole lot of good suggestions for this, but the correct answer is:

Nah, that has been brewing for a long time. There has been a cult following of Tesla within technical circles for many years. Bowie's Tesla was modeled on hero worship that already existed. He gave maybe gave Tesla popularity a boost, but so did xkcd and The Oatmeal.
