Yeah. It seems obvious that the producers are setting Lauren up as the "villain", so we can cheer when she loses in the final.

Nia is the absolute worst. How the hell did she get this sweet gig?

Interesting, I didn't remember that. Must be from the first book if Ravn is still around? I read that one 6 or 7 year ago, so must have forgotten.

I'd have to re-check the books, but I pretty exclusively remember the Fate is inexorable phrasing. A quick google search seems to back that translation, or "Fate is wholly inexorable".

It's from the books. The "Destiny is all" line that they use in the show is based on it. It's Old English and means "Fate is inexorable."

Wyrd bith ful araed.

Correct. Minor mistake in the review. They don't just say she's "in the north". We know where she is.

You must not have seen the Argentine film then, because the trailer for this remake definitely does not give away the whole arc of the film.

It's easy to make fun of Brosnan, but everything he said about Spectre is completely accurate.

Anyone else baffled by the M.I.A. "Bad Girls" video sketch? It was mildly funny, but that song came out 2 or 3 years ago. Why do that now? Can't wait til next week and another topical sketch on the latest White Stripes album.

I think so.

It would take too long to show all of that. I think they accomplished most of the characterization by having him put the ax in his hand and say go to Valhalla.

This show is so much better than Vikings.

Take everything you wrote, reverse it, and then you would be correct.

It's a movie where the protagonist is a former confederate soldier. Sams as John Carter.

I think that is too passive, this isn't a narrative that we fell into, it was constructed to justify what happened in the south after the war, i.e. another 100 years of systematic oppression. I think as a country we need to be much, much harder in our collective view of the antebellum south as a whole. It should be

Cold Mountain, The Outlaw Josey Wales, John Carter, True Grit, The Conspirator, etc. And that is leaving out anything before 1940 as you suggest, conveniently just in time to exclude the all time champ of this bullshit, Gone With the Wind.

Fuck yeah.

Fuck this movie. I'm so sick of Civil War era movies where somehow the heroes are slave-owners and the villains are the people who fought to get rid of slavery.

On the casting, I don't think it's much of a problem to put people like Hawke and Hamilton in it. The population of Uruguay is pretty european, especially the upper class who are the ones that play rugby. Here's a photo of hte current team. http://uru.org.uy/los-teros…
