Ally McBeal Season 3 is when the show jumped the shark. Billy, the love of Ally McBeal's life, 1) dyed his hair and 2) actually died.
The question is, by "surviving" a season, does that mean you keep watching, until it the show gets better? Or do you cut your losses and quit? Because Ally McBeal never really got much

Was that confident, or was he asking himself if he really was the grown-up he was insisting he was?

I watched this with my gay friend, and he had to translate for me. Like subtitles for straight people.

This plot would have been more effective if I could remember any part of the original episode to which this refers. Some of those scenes would have been quite useful in "Previously on…" Then I could actually have an opinion as to Jessa's intervention that day.

I think in this context the usage is meant to be ironic, considering that it's the AVClub, and the topic is a celebrity Twitter beef.

Klaus Barbie

Hell yes. I've made no distinction between the audio and regular books on my Goodreads.

"please tell me that sinking to the lowest common denominator ended up not working out so well on the national level.)"
2017 update: it didn't.

It was obliquely referred to on SNL last night, during the Elizabeth Warren portion of Weekend Update. They mention this in their intro above the article.

Smoking a few too many of the Mary Janes.

And don't forget the third part nihilists oops I mean purists!

Moral of the story: if you're black, it doesn't matter if you are the town's star athlete. If you smack a white boy in a movie theater, you'll go to court, be suspended, and become front page news….if you're lucky.
On the other hand, if you're white and nerdy and straight up murder a motherfucker with a tire iron,

You are almost the only one who has pointed this out so far. A big oversight by the writer (in an otherwise excellent piece). Although it it might have been considered fantasy since so many idiots didn't realize the Titanic was a real event:

Yeah, he was basically the straight guy for Stephen Merchant and his naughty pen, which was good enough for me.

Come friendly bombs, and fall on Slough!

I would echo the sentiment. I'm laughing just thinking back on Orlando Bloom, Samuel L. Jackson, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellan, Kate Winslet, and Robert Deniro.

Where's the squeaky-voiced teen from the Simpsons when you need him?

Or a few million snowflakes…

Orbitz, not Hubba Bubba. Fake news!
