Gawker gets their revenue from ads. Ad companies pay gawker for putting ads on the site, and for the most part gawker gets paid per exposure. That is to say, the more people load a gawker article, the more times the ad gets loaded and per their agreements with the ad agencies, the more money gawker gets.
