Rutina Wesley was too good for True Blood. I think part of the problem was that her character was not in the books and so the writers didn’t quite know what to do with her. She was clearly so talented but just given nothing to do with it.

My thoughts exactly. I mean, I’d be fine with being drugged and raped by one of America’s great father figures as long as I was assured that he would go blind 30 years later after having lived a rich, fulfilling, and very successful life.

So it’s actually rape that makes you go blind, not masturbation.

This saddens me. Now there is literally no way he’ll see the inside of a jail cell.

Well that un-rapes dozens of women.

Why do we do this to ourselves??? I’m having a severe allergic reaction... to myself

when i was 15 i called a boy “magnetic” in an email and the memory of it still makes me want to barf

It’s viscerally embarrassing to read. I suddenly feel ashamed of all the obviously, transparently performative emails I’ve written to smart boys in a desperate bid to get laid.

It almost sounds like she’s trying to compare your lives to her own.

this article could not have been posted at a better time...i was just thinking about leaving my five-year-old out on the curb for someone to claim.

If she has witnessed other shootings, etc. in her life...

You might be surprised at what you’re capable of. You do what you have to do to survive. In my case it was talking to my rapist for 3 hours (in the middle of the night after he broke into my house and woke me up with a knife at my throat) like he was a normal guy I’d date and have a relationship with to get him out of

People who have been through a lot (i.e. trauma) can actually be more calm and level-headed in an emergency. If she has witnessed other shootings, etc. in her life......

Yeah, I almost went off on a friend-of-a-friend comment that called her reaction “psychotic” because she was so calm. Of course, I’m 99% sure if she had been hysterical, they would have seen this as evidence that the officer was right to feel threatened.

Also, the broken taillight reason was BS. Police scanner recordings revealed that the officer pulled them over because they might be suspects in a robbery because he saw a “wide nose.” They were straight up racially profiled (sadly unsurprising).

It doesn’t matter what she would have done. If she had been hysterical they would have said she was putting on a show for the cameras.

When you’ve got a preconceived notion of how something is supposed to play out, suddenly everything looks ‘fishy’.

Now playing

I was listening to Malcolm X speeches the other day and what he is saying could be applied word for word to what is going on today.

From what I can tell, it’s technically not double jeopardy because the state appealed the original manslaughter conviction as they believed the judge misapplied the law. The original trial court found that Pistorius killed Steenkamp negligently, not intentionally, which is the difference between manslaughter and

It’s a much better framework for her, I think the Daily Show format would have stifled her.
