Why say ‘pay attention to the play’ if what was meant was ‘pay attention to the coach’?

Basically, he never saw it in the first place. It’s like when you hear an airplane but it takes you a while to find it. You know it’s up there somewhere, but because you dont k ow where it is to start with, it takes a while.

Dumbest rule in sports, right? At no other point on the field does fumbling out of bounds result in a change of possession. But if you fumble, after being very successful then you get ‘penalized’.
