I am a console gamer but I read things on DS on  kotaku/joystiq/gamelogical so for what its worth, I would check out Zelda: Ocarina of Time.  I heard they recently ported it to the DS with exceptional care and that game is a timeless classic.  Otherwise, mario cart is always great to fill time.
