major hat tip for posting that link to gq article. fascinating. especially enjoyed portion discussing the infamous Gervais interview. I partially buy his explanation that they both were trying to force the other into submitting to their style of discussion. But i still think its mainly Shandling's razor sharp…
good point. I really enjoyed seasons 1-3 and checked out completely for season 4 because I knew this exact backlash would occur and i want to wait and watch season 4 after all the hubbub dies down and people can look at it objectively. It is a cool show but c'mon this many articles is ridiculous, just fanning the…
and plenty! did you read the linked grantland article? what a river of words. the author literally has a foot note that says "hmm, this would be a great place to end this article" which appears ahead of another 500+ words.
reminded me of tracy jordan's vanity plate on 30Rock:
i'm ron burgundy?
yeah that was not a favorable portrayal to put it likely. that his gf recognized that she is dating a surrogate of her father but continues is gross and his treatment of others seems cruel and tiresome. the portion where he places himself on the autistic spectrum was also off putting because he seemed to have…
on the other other hand, sammy hagar and van halen
damn, i really hated hank after watching that episode. Hank is such a compelling tragic-clown character but I have always thought he meant well - the way he treated sid made despise him - akin to the transformation of walter white on bb - but Jeffrey Tambor is so good I still forgave him by the finale. Damn, the last…
nice comments, I was so excited to get Larry Sanders complete series. But am i am the only one - the sound is jarringly bad; super quiet for dialogue scenes, requiring raising the volume punctuated by insanely over loud music in the intro and closing credits? I put it on once to fall asleep but kept turning it up…
what?? this is one of their best shows and they own it. lazy bastards
yes, I bought my boxset day 1 just as a thank you to Shout Factory for finally, at long last bringing Larry Sanders to DVD in its entirety. Gotta say though, as great as this show is, it looks like shit on DVD. They need to clean this show up for blu ray like a bastard.
true. they really were fully formed from the get-go. for comparison, I love parks and rec, but the first season really had to adjust to find its voice. Larry Sanders came out ready to fight. fuck i miss this show. Why doesn't gary shandling at least produce a new show in this vein?
fuck yes. one of the greatest portrayals of manly men.
I often ponder who would win a no rules death-match in ring of fire - the combatants? Artie vs. Ron F. Swanson
yes! hear hear!
yup, gotta give it up to ace ventura for being willing to look like a cold calculating bastard. i got a little teary. what a great series. something about the whole last season is kind of sad and wistful, like the cast knew it was coming to an end and were sad they wouldn't get to hang out anymore.
arthur after hours was the first ep i saw, on ABC at 1 in the morning on a sunday night back in high school. it was edited for swearing but i was just struck by rip torn's performance. Artie's love of scotch was definitely an influence.
i get the creeps when i watch that episode. Siskel, Ritter and Warren Zevon, the dead guest trifecta.
thanks for the info! been wanting to pick up Friends of Eddie Coyle, Mishima: A Life in 4 Chapters and Night of the Hunter.
hardcore Quail Man reference!
