My favorite accidental foreshadowing moment in this episode comes when Nate is ignoring Brenda and she muses about attending an orgy. Because wouldn't that just be crazy!

I had the same thought, Pairesta. That line, and this episode, does seem to sum up the main question of this character. I think Nate's presence ended up affecting David in profound ways. Ruth, too, one instance of which we see in this episode. I think you're spot-on about Claire. So I think he'll be remembered, and

Thanks, Archmage! These reviews are indeed written entirely from my own notes (except when I'm poaching from commenters, and I always give them credit).

Hmm, good point. I think that's a valid reading. There are indications that Ruth is starting to turn in that first scene with the Cheerfulsons. Maybe when she makes that "Isn't this nice?" face, she's trying to convince herself as much as Claire that her cousin's mother-daughter relationship isn't completely nuts.

Thank you for those kind words. That means a lot to me.

Wow, and written in HTML5, no less. Thanks, PhilWal!

Wow. Great points, fallentomato. Reading that made me well up a little.

I agree completely, Hammer Down. In fact, I find it easier to tolerate Brenda this time around, now that I know she will eventually "grow up" as you say.

Incorrect.

If you don't enjoy it by now, you're probably not going to ever fall in love with it. You seem like a pretty smart guy, and you've given the show its fair shot. Which is to say, I don't think there is any great mystery to it that you're missing. It's not for everyone.

I think that OZ hasn't held up too well, but Six Feet Under is as good as ever. The music and sometimes the clothes are slightly dated — although we're still only talking ten years. Other than that, it doesn't feel so old to me at all.

I found Nate's big epiphany that Brenda could have set the fire to be pretty lame and unconvincing. Granted, I have the benefit of knowing how it plays out, and who knows how much that taints my view. On the other hand, I thought that the hinting toward Claire as the suspected arsonist in the previous episode was

I read this as David being way too proud of himself for a laughably minor act of self-assertion. He envisions Paco giving him a fist bump (i.e., he gives himself a fist bump) for, in essence, confirming to Ruth that Keith is a person who exists. David thinks he's really coming into his own with this "move," if you can

Let's not kid ourselves; she's probably still ashamed.

Really interesting stuff. Are "Humpty Dumpty" and "casket climber" actual slang that you've heard?

Yet more SPOILER ALERT.

It will be the first line on my obituary, and I deserve it.

It might not have been — that was just my reading of it.

The "Everyone's Waiting" Thread
Crap. I thought I had put this thread on here, but I was looking at last week's post. I apologize. Anyway, this is still the thread for foreshadowing, future plot developments, and whatnot.

OK, second-dumbest.
