As someone who also hates Nazis and is a strident ACLU supporter and is also jewish, I completely agree with everything you wrote in your most recent post (except possibly that ridicule is the best tool—personally, I side with political mobilization of anti-extremists and economic and community development to reduce

I’m always troubled when someone’s first response to “Hey, let’s go punch those Nazis!” is “Are you sure you should be punching Nazis?” and not “Why are there Nazis here?”

As a fellow artist, I’m sure you’re aware that most of these “statues” were just mass produced dreck. Not much different or aesthetically substantive than the statues of Ronald McDonald that used to grace McDonald Playplaces, except Ronald’s weren’t glorifying slavery.

That’s the nicest thing anyone has said about James Garfield in years.

I hope Boston University got a Jewish student to replace him.

I’m not sure why I thought it would be a good idea to look at the comments on that page, but they are their own level of hell.

That must be a new law because all my wife got last year when she complained for the second time was fired.

Now that I think about it that might be why everyone keeps mistaking them for dogs.

Flash & Ziggy

Actually, most fascists and Neo-Nazis in real life (not all, but most) are cowards so that is very much on brand.

Yes!

Agreed. It’s pretty clearly trafficing in an anti-semitic stereotype. I’m amazed at how many outlets are framing this as “Some people say Jay-Z is being anti-semitic” instead of “People are calling out Jay-Z’s anti-semitism.” It’s telling to me that Russell Simmons, in defending Jay-Z’s comment, had to change what

I’m not missing the distinction you are trying to make. I’m disagreeing with your categorization of it. The distinction is between directly profiting and indirectly profiting, not between profiting and not profiting.

Two words: Proportional representation.

How is promotion not a profit generating activity? The point of all promotion is, ultimately, to generate profit.

I’ll keep this in mind if your job stops paying you, and you want sympathy.

You seem to have a very limited definition of “trying to make money off of them.” They didn’t hold this party as an altruistic gesture.

The press having an adversarial relationship to the government is healthy for a democracy, not necessarily the other way around.

My wife and I are expecting our first child in a few months, and we have two pet pigs. 200 pound indoor pet pigs—one of whom is a grumpy malcontent—with visible tusks. Do you know what is going to change when our kid gets here? Not a damn thing. (Though, we are all going be sleep deprived.)

Rainbows are fucking awesome!
