I have Time Warner in Austin, and unlike everyone else on the planet apparently, I've always had amazingly good service, including customer service, experiences. I get cable and internet through them, and really couldn't be happier (well, the prices could be lower, but that's about it).

My Dad had the same sentiment about Picasa but once I showed him how to select/deselect the folders that Picasa will monitor and pull pictures from, he became a daily user of the software.
